Like any fashion lover, accessory designer Joyce Makitalo made sure to get a copy of Vogue’s March and September issues as they offer a smorgasbord of inspirational pages for the style hungry. But little did Makitalo know that there was a pleasant surprise that awaited her as she sifted through the pages of Vogue.
Although she has had her fair share of international features, “seeing my piece in Vogue, on Jourdan Dunn, right in front of John Legend’s face, was very overwhelming and without warning! It was quite an experience. The layout got Anna Wintour’s seal of approval. I am very thankful. I think the shot was beautiful. They even used the page for their mailers,” shares Makitalo.
The featured ring is from her Spring-Summer 2011 collection dubbed Shardboneteeth. “It’s inspired by talismans, amulets and charms from different cultures,” adds Makitalo. All her pieces are made of semi-precious stones, and silver dipped in 24k gold; with some pieces made with brass dipped in 24k gold.
