Designer Handbags Reported Stolen From Mailed Packages

Township police are investigating the reported theft of three designer handbags from packages mailed to Taiwan from the Allen Road post office, according to police. The theft was reported on Dec. 3 after a Dorchester Drive resident, owner of a distribution company, apparently received notice that the packages arrived in Taiwan with the items missing, police said. The alleged theft and tampering with the packages could have taken place anywhere between its route from the Allen Road post office and its destination in Taiwan, said Police Detective Lt. Ted Reese. The resident told police he had mailed two packages to Taiwan from the U.S. Post Office in The Hills, one on Nov. 12 and one on Nov. 22, according to police. The resident owns a distribution company, police said. The resident reportedly was notified about the tampering and theft after his customers in Taiwan received the packages, police said. The first package mailed was found to be missing a red Marc Jacobs handbag valued at $1,000, police said. The second package to be mailed allegedly arrived missing a beige Gucci handbag and a black Chloe's handbag, police said. Each of those bags are valued at $1,000, the police report said. The investigation possibly could be conducted in conjunction with the post office, Reese said.
